You Never Know Who's Listening by John Adams Review

You Never Know Who's Listening - John Adams

8/10

Spotify

There's so much emotion throughout this album. From the beginning until the end, John Adams takes you on an emotional journey through everything he's feeling. And, we can feel it too.

The first song that truly hits you is Things That Make You Beautiful. The raw emotion in the chorus, with only him, a harmony and piano chords gives me chills. I've listened to it at least 15 times, and every time that first chorus gets me. It's just so good.

This leads directly into the next song, For Me, For Her, For You, which gives me chills for the opposite reason. While the last song was talking about loving someone, this song is talking about not being able to love someone because of their feelings for someone else still existing. John's vocals again sell the song and makes a beautiful sad song that I can't stop listening to.

Dandelion Wishes, and the beautiful acoustic version at the end of the album, asks the question of "what if I had never met you?" It's pretty, and like the rest of the music on this album, the vocal performance sells it.

The one other song I want to highlight on this record is See You Again, a heartwarming song for his late mother. Raw emotion is why this album works so well, and you need to listen to it, so you can experience it for yourself.
