Why Love On Top is the most unnecessary song ever

Why Love On Top is the most

unnecessary song ever

Beyonce is an angel we all don't deserve. She's one of the best singers on this generation and deservingly so, because she sings her heart out in every song she has. Love On Top is no exception.

There are 4 key changes in Love On Top. And they all exist within the last minute and a half of the song. And this, at first glance, is very impressive to hear in such a short period of time. She goes through C, Db, D, Eb, and E Major throughout these key changes, ascending a half step every time. For a full analysis of the music theory behind this, I recommend reading this article here.

The first 3 minutes of this song is undoubtably catchy, with her vocal riffs being as impressive as ever. And then, she has a sudden key change right before the chorus that is a really pleasant surprise and makes the song just that much better. Then she does it again. And again. And again.

She probably does another one after that too, as the song fades out right before that chorus ends. She's probably still modulating in the recording studio.

I find that the key changes take away from the overall quality of the song, as it becomes less of a piece of art and more of a sing off with herself. A very good sing off, but still unnecessary. If this song has one, MAYBE even 2 modulations I would find this song a lot more manageable, and I wouldn't finding myself turning off the song at the 4 minute mark. Love you Beyonce, just take it down a notch with the key changes, we don't have to prove you're a queen.

Thank you all for reading! Let me know your opinion, and as always this is Kenny Haller, over and out!
