Little Dark Age by MGMT Review

Little Dark Age - MGMT

This album was surprising. I honestly wasn't expecting much from this group that hadn't had a hit since 2007, and really didn't seem like they were going to have another. Yet here comes this album, one of the best albums to come out so far this year.

The funk on this album is incredible. Every song just vibes with a grooving bass line and interesting, often jazzy chords which drives every song forward. That interest never fades throughout this project, always keeping things interesting and different throughout the project.

The opening song, She Works Out Too Much, is one of the weirdest musical experiences I've ever listened to, and honestly is way better than it should be. The whole song is constantly interrupted by a workout instructor from what sounds like a DVD workout recording. This song is the most fun song on this project and one of the best this project offers.

The rest of the album, (for the most part), is more serious but doesn't suffer at all in terms of interesting moments. Every song is different and original and truly special. I can't recommend this album enough, it's truly incredible and something everyone should listen to this year.
