January Quick Reviews

January Quick Reviews

This is going to be a bunch of short reviews on albums I never got to reviewing in January, some of which i really liked, and some of which I really didn't. Enjoy!

Devin Dawson - Dark Horse - 6/10

I thought this album was very solid. I don't understand the overwhelming praise it got from country fans, though. The single, All On Me, as well as most of the album just feels like pretty basic country. Albeit very well done basic country, this album is not as innovative as critic are saying it is. If you like country, you'll be sure to enjoy this album.

Porches - The House - 5.5/10

An album full of interesting musical choices, it lands nicely more times than it falters. But that doesn't mean it's without flaws from just strange moments throughout. The first half is good and then the second half feels unfinished and drags. It's a decent album but overall mostly forgettable.

Jeff Rosenstock - Post - 7/10

Upset that it took me weeks to get to this album, as this one deserved a review of it's own. This album talks about real issues in American society, some of which very controversial. It's great to hear someone discuss these real issues in their music being so well thought out and presented. Give this one a listen.

Spotify

Craig David - The Time Is Now - 3.5/10

...why?

CupcakKe - Ephorize - 5/10

Funny, fun, and different album that had me laughing out loud at points, and downright grossed out at other points. Some of the instrumentals are interesting and different, but others feel old and like they've already been used 1000 times by now. An album with very high highs and long periods of lows.

Ty Segall - Freedom's Goblin - 6.5/10

This album manages to make 19 songs not feel like a complete drag, with a few exceptions. This project could've used a little more trimming to cut out a few songs that make this album longer than it should be, but overall the amount this album let's loose creates some great songs that will make you come back again and again.

No Age - Snares Like A Haircut - 7/10

Sometimes you just need an album that doesn't give you time to think. This album offers a lot for punk fans to love, and like the Shame album I reviewed earlier this month, plenty for all music fans to enjoy. No Age really delivers their best on this album, so much that I found plenty to enjoy and love myself.

Bahamas - Earthtones - 6/10

I wish this album was more adventurous with it's musical direction at points. But, there's still plenty to love on this record and plenty to satisfy your ears and your mind. A beautiful, yet sometimes too safe project.

Which albums did you love? Which albums did you hate? Which album didn't I review that I should've? Leave a comment and let me know!
