December 2017 Album Review

December 2017

As we wrap up the year, it's always nice to reflect on yourself and everything that's happened over the past year. Self-reflection is imperative in order to better yourself and prepare yourself for the future. Happy New Year to you and your friends and family!

Albums That Flopped

Revival - Eminem

2.5/10

Do yourself a favor and don't waste 78 minutes of your life listening to it. It sucks.

The Beautiful and The Damned - G-Eazy

3/10

This 70 plus minute record shows how much G-Eazy’s lyrics lack depth. The singles off this album, “Him & I” and “Sober”, pass for radio music but fail to go any deeper than overly vague topics. These songs are the best on the album, unfortunately, as the other single, “No Limit”, as well as the other songs suffer from the same problems with worse melodies and beats.

Albums Worth A Listen

The Trip EP - San Holo

5/10

Short and to the point. Interesting enough to listen to once without getting bored, but loses it’s interesting factor after listening to it once. The exception is b song by Analogue Dear which comes out of left field and is one of my songs of the month. This EP is worth a listen, it may surprise you.

What Makes You Country - Luke Bryan

5/10

This album starts off really strong, with What Makes You Country and Light It Up starting off the album with two country bops. Most People Are Good is a song that only Luke Bryan could pull off without it being overly-sappy. Unfortunately, the album stalls out in the middle and even the end doesn't live up to the start. If you like country at all you will enjoy this album, but if you don't, this album will not change your mind.

Best Of Tinder-Dates - Smoke Trees

6/10

A very interesting project that was a big surprise for me. When I saw this album I had the sole intention of adding a terrible album to my list for variety. That's not what happened. Instead I was treated to 17 1-2 minute songs that kept me engaged and interested. My only complaint would be that with the songs being so short, it leaves very little room to expand the musical ideas. Overall definitely worth a listen.

Top Albums Of The Month

Boom - Walker Hayes

7/10

Walker Hayes comes through with some surprisingly good songs on this new record, Boom. I was interested in this album ever since his single, “You Broke Up With Me”, came out. This record, more than anything else, feels very organic and natural, an there's something special about someone unafraid to say what they want. My favorite songs are You Broke Up With Me, Craig, Beautiful, and, of course, Shut Up Kenny.

Nobody Else EP - Idealism

7.5/10

Idealism comes through with an instrumental album that properly bears it’s name. This EP is full of instrumentals that leave room for your mind to wander into deep thoughts, but with interesting moments to re-grab your attention in each song. I wish this project was longer, but even as it is it will still take the #1 spot on my monthly list. Highly Recommend.
