Okay... Don't freak out. This album is by no means a great album. I just think everyone didn't even give it a chance to see that it has some really good moments on it.

There is no question that the lyrics in at least 99% of this album are garbage. There's no way I could possibly defend that. But the vocal performances on this record, (most notably Emily Warren, but all of the guest singers) are really solid and add an extra layer of immersion to the song. (Admittedly one that is needed because of the terrible lyrics). Even Andrew Taggart, a member of the duo who has increasingly been singing on their music since Closer, offers really good performances on songs like Honest and Paris.

Break Up Every Night is The Chainsmokers' only fast song on this album. Which is weird, because prior to Roses in 2015 that was basically all they put out. This song also goes for a more pop rock feel which goes over, at least to my ear, decently, with nothing sticking out at bad. And that's mainly what I say about this whole album, is that not much sticks out as really bad at all, mainly just the lyrics on these tracks, which has always plagued The Chainsmokers.

Like I said, I don't think this album was great either. I just don't understand the universal hate for it. It sounds a lot better than a lot of music that's getting much better reviews and reception than it, just because this is by The Chainsmokers. So before you make too harsh a judgment, go listen to it, you never know if you'll like it until you try.
